The Floor talker unit is mainly used to inform the person about the current position of the elevator.

Besides informing about the current position of the elevator, some other information may be reported e.g. opening and closing of the elevator door, the direction of movement, overload of the elevator, or user-defined reports. In many countries, the voice announcement is mandatory, according to law or other regulations. The Floor Talker is mainly necessary for sight-impaired persons, but also it can be useful for other elevator users, e.g. sometimes the display in the elevator car is not visible.
